White Sheet Scale Fly-in 3rd August 2025

Last year an ex long-time SRFC club member, Pete Cushion, emailed the club to get in touch with old friends. I flew gliders with him for many years and welcomed the chance to exchange emails.

He extended an invitation to fly at his local site, White Sheet Hill in Wiltshire. It is the westward end of our chalk downland and has several superb slopes offering flying at several points of the compass. Landing is largely unobstructed and on forgiving grass.

A year passed before I was in a position to take up his offer and I decided that it would be a good idea to first attend one of the club glider meetings I had been reading about in RCM&E. This would allow me to check out the slopes for a return later in the summer.

The meeting organiser, Nick, was happy for me to publish details of the site. Just contact the club first if you plan to visit and they will give you guidance. They have a good relationship with the National Trust at this Site of Special Scientific Interest.

These photos give you some idea of this wonderful site, and the superb models that the meetings attract.
