Popham 2026
Several members travelled to the Popham Show on Saturday 9th May 2026. The sun came out and there was much to see.

The pits area had a wide range of models, some of which were displayed both in the morning and in the afternoon.

I’ve never seen turbine powered jets in action and there were many on display, both scale and sport. This sport model performed well although the styling was said to be “marmite” in character.

Several clubs put on fun displays. I think this may be the Basingstoke Club, who were responsible for the “Spitty” project in 2023.The action was frenetic.

This model of the 2009 Extra EA-330/SC aerobatic aircraft registered in Switzerland, gave a completely realistic performance.

Helicopters were well represented, but difficult to see clearly, as the spectators were well back from the runway. This Lynx was beautifully detailed.

Another scale model was this Dakota, skilfully flown in the brisk crosswind.

The flight line was controlled by safety officers in addition to the marshalls.

A close-up of the aerobatic plane. It is a 55% scale Yak-54 by Steve Carr. The crew give an idea of its huge size.

My rather fanciful image of a pair of biplanes putting in a spirited display.

This sequence shows the model of the Anana Pitts Special. The inverted pass was especially impressive.

The 55% scale Yak-54 put on a stunning display.
